I cannot count the number of times I have helped various friends move, but I can tell you that I wish pods storage was around for every single move. Most of those moves were in college or graduate school when we were poor students. Pizza and cheap beer were the payment for filling the moving truck. We usually had to help said friend pack and convince them to throw various things away that just would not fit in the truck. We had the more cerebral task of actually driving the truck in public, after the manual labor of loading everything in a moving truck. It continues to amaze me that a person who has a normal non commercial drivers license is allowed to rent one of these big trucks and drive it through public streets. It is when you turn the first corner in that truck and hear everything crashing down in the back, that you realize you should have left it to the professionals. Who knew you should not just put the TV on a box stacked high on that overstuffed chair? If only there was some kind of pods storage, so you would not have to worry about driving all this stuff around and breaking it.
I am a grown up now and have paid someone else to move me every time I have moved the last ten years. It is expensive, though, and you have to have your act together. You can save some money by having everything packed when the movers get there, or pay more and have them do everything. Either way, it is a rushed and harried process. The movers will start wrapping things up and packing them together, if they see anything not packed. After my first professional move, I found a very lightweight, but HUGE box, filled with various shoes that had all been individually wrapped with an enormous amount of paper. Most movers get paid for every bit of packing material they use, as well as the time it takes to do everything. Again, I wish I would have known about pods storage as an option.
I live in a big city and have been seeing these pods storage boxes all over the last 5 years or so.I figured it was for people who did not want to pay for the full monte on the moving spectrum. When some friends of ours decided to move to California, we learned all about pods storage. In exchange for dinner and wine, we graced them with our packing skills for an entire afternoon. The pods storage unit was curbside just outside their building, so we put most of the things we packed directly into it. The storage unit was outside their apartment for a week, so they were able to slowly take thing downstairs and get them organized in the thing. It had a huge system of locks and was very sturdy. No one could get into the thing unless he had a forklift and just wanted to take the whole thing. Whatever was too heavy or cumbersome to take care of ourselves, was moved into the pods storage cube by some people they hired. The pods storage box was picked up by the moving company that owned it, and off their belongings went to California. Our friends did not have to drive a truck or have a rushed day of movers at their apartment. Who knew? Poor college students are not the only ones who can use pods storage. And your friends do not have to hide when you tell them you are moving. Related Articles Portable storage | Storage pods | Storage |
