Ask anyone who has lived in Rochester NY, moved, and come back, and they will tell you this: it is a great place to live! Now you know you want to live here, but which are the best Rochester NY neighborhoods? That is a good question. Each neighborhood contains within itself its own unique characteristics, demography, and hot spots for shopping and entertainment. Those who wish to move here will have to take all of these factors into account when deciding which neighborhood is best for them. Here are some local favorites that are hot renting spots in Rochester NY: Park Ave, NOTA, South Wedge, Corn Hill, and the St. Paul Quarter.
For college students and young professionals, Park Ave is a favorite. Apartments are still reasonable, running at around $500 to $650 a month for a nice one bedroom, and there are studios for even less. There are plenty of shops, delis, and bars in the area, and many of the buildings are, like many places in Rochester NY, history and eye candy all at once. Still, stay open to some other great locations that are less hyped, such as NOTA, or the Neighborhood of the Arts. Located around the George Eastman House and Memorial Art Gallery, this neighborhood features the ARTWalk, plus many great, inexpensive places to rent. The rents are comparable to Park Ave, and this area is closer to Downtown. A previously blue collar neighborhood, South Wedge has become another student favorite as of late. South Wedge rents are very reasonable, with studios at $400 and single bedrooms at $500. Great places in the area include Lux Lounge, Godivas, India House, and Highland Park.
Want a more grown up neighborhood in Rochester NY? Families and young professionals both love living in the Corn Hill neighborhood. Located close to downtown, it is like its own little village. Luxury town houses offer a different kind of rental option, though cheaper studios and the like can also be rented there. Each year the neighborhood holds its own festival, the Corn Hill Arts Festival, to which city residents flock. If you are looking for real downtown living, there is nothing like the St. Paul Quarter. There, you can even find a great loft apartment, with trendy bars and restaurants all close by. Enjoy exposed brick walls and exposed city views at the same time, then go down to Waterstreet Bar and Grill to see a rock show. Any place you go, you are sure to love Rochester NY living!
